Local PGI Tournament Information - Yukon

Tournament Date: June 7, 2008

Since its beginning in 1990 in Watson Lake and Whitehorse, the PGI Yukon Golf Tournament for Literacy has become the largest fundraiser for literacy in the territory. More than 70 cents of every dollar raised go directly to adult learning programs supported by the Yukon Learn Society.
Every year, Yukoners - business owners, entertainers, politicians, and other influential people - participate in the annual tournament held at Mountain View Golf Course. They are joined by dozens of volunteers and by learners, the beneficiaries of the sponsors’ generosity. National sponsors and celebrities also attend and participate in the day’s activities.
While the Yukon PGI follows the format of all other PGI events – with a rich mixture of golf, poetry, music and banquets – it also has a distinct northern flavour. Local musicians and poets laureate help add a northern cultural element to the event. And nothing can beat the breathtaking scenery: a magnificent golf course carved out of the Yukon wilderness, nestled on the banks above the famous Yukon River where over 100 years ago, gold seekers paddled their way to the Klondike gold fields.

What makes this event unique is that it goes on well into the evening, with the sun still high and bright in the “land of the midnight sun.”
