Your Family Could Spend A Day With Robert Munsch
Fourth Annual Munsch at Home Contest Accepting Entries

Toronto, ON - September 11, 2008 – Enter the fourth annual Munsch at Home contest for your family’s chance to win a visit from Robert Munsch. Canadian families are invited to submit their event ideas and compete to have Munsch attend their Family Literacy Day® celebration.

ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation encourages families from across the country to come up with fun learning activities that promote learning in their homes. The most interesting and creative Family Literacy Day event is selected to host a party for Robert Munsch, their friends and family. The beloved children’s writer and storyteller will attend their party on January 17, 2009 and participate in a public reading at the local public library.

“This is the fourth year of the Munsch at Home contest and each year I get more impressed by the creative learning activities that Canadian families invent to promote learning in their homes,” says Robert Munsch. “Family Literacy Day is one day but through this contest I get to meet families who celebrate reading and learning together every day.”

The visit from Munsch is part of national celebrations to encourage Canadians to participate in Family Literacy Day on January 27 and to spend at least 15 minutes enjoying a learning activity every day. Family Literacy Day is a national program developed by ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation and Honda Canada to celebrate parents and children reading and learning together. Thousands of Canadians across the country participate in this initiative with their families, at libraries and at literacy organizations every year.

Starting September 12, 2008, ABC CANADA will accept contest entries from families anywhere in Canada who are planning Family Literacy Day (FLD) parties. To enter, families submit an application form that they can download from ABC CANADA’s website, www.abc-canada.org. Each contestant writes a short description about how they plan to celebrate FLD and mails it to ABC CANADA. Entries are judged on creativity and originality. Families are also asked to name a public library of their choice that will also receive a special visit from Mr. Munsch. To be considered, applications must be received by ABC CANADA by 5:00 p.m. EST on December 12, 2008.
