Contest Rules and Regulations:

Eligibility: No purchase necessary. The contest, open to residents of Canada over the age of majority only, commences at 12:00:01 AM (EST) on September 22, 2009 and runs through to 5:00:00 PM (EST) on December 11, 2009 (the "Contest Period"). Contest entry is open to all Canadian families that submit a written story on the Family Literacy Day website. Eligible persons cannot be employees of ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation ("ABC CANADA"), Honda Canada, their affiliated companies, or their respective advertising agencies, or be a relative of these persons. The contest is void where prohibited by law. ABC CANADA, Honda Canada and Robert Munsch are the "Sponsors" of the contest.

Each submitted story must follow the following guidelines to be eligible for the contest:

  • At least one child and one parent or guardian must be involved in writing the story, and the child must be the primary author.
  • The story cannot be longer than 250 words.
  • The story must have a singing theme.
  • The story needs to be submitted online by 5:00 p.m. EST by December 11, 2009, to qualify.

Prize: The prize package will include a private visit to the home of the winner on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from Robert Munsch and will consist of an afternoon of storytelling and visiting with the winning contestants. The winner's story will be read to everyone at the event by Robert Munsch and also published in a newspaper or magazine, accompanied by a special illustration created by Michael Martchenko, illustrator for Robert Munsch books! Media will be present during this period. In addition, Robert Munsch will make a special one-hour visit to a public library, literacy organization or school of the contest winner's choice. Mr. Munsch is not bilingual and will be conducting the storytelling in English only. Approximate value of prize: $3500. This prize must be accepted as awarded and has no cash equivalent, nor is it transferable. There will be no substitutes except at the discretion of the Sponsors. The odds of winning are dependent upon the total number of eligible entries received.

Prize Administration: This is a judged contest, not a random draw, and all entries will be judged based on originality and creativity of ideas, as well as the adherence to contest rules. All decisions are final. The winning entry will be contacted by telephone and/or email during the week of January 4-8, 2010. If, for any reason, the selected entrant cannot reply during that time period, his/her entry will be disqualified and the entry judged the next best will be awarded the prize. Before being declared the winner, the winning entrants will be required to sign a Declaration and Release Form (the "Release Form") confirming compliance with the contest rules and acceptance of the prize as awarded, and releasing the Sponsors and their affiliated agencies from any liability in connection with the prizes or this contest. Declaration and Release Forms must be returned within the time period specified on the Form.

Conditions of Participation: By participating in the Munsch at Home Contest, each entrant accepts and agrees to these official rules and the decisions of the Sponsors, which shall be final and legally binding. The Sponsors will not be responsible for late, lost, misdirected, falsified, incomplete or destroyed entries and all such entries are void. The Sponsors do not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information; technical malfunctions; human or technical error; lost, delayed or garbled data; or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer lines or networks, computer equipment, software, or any combination thereof. No correspondence will be entered into except with the selected entrants. All entries become the property of ABC CANADA and none will be returned. This contest is subject to all Federal, Provincial, Territorial and Municipal laws. ABC CANADA has the exclusive right to publish or broadcast, in part or in whole, any story submitted through this contest, in any and all ABC CANADA publications or video, ABC CANADA television/print public service announcements, and local, provincial or national media, without limitations, whether apart from or in connection with any written matter, video, advertising or news item pertaining to the Munsch at Home Contest.

The Sponsors accept no responsibility for loss, damage or claims caused by, or resulting from, the contest or prizes associated with this contest. By entering and accepting a prize, each winner consents to the use of his/her name and photographs without further remuneration, in connection with any publicity carried out by or on behalf of the Sponsors with respect to this contest. The Sponsors reserve the right, with the consent of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux in the Province of Quebec, to terminate or to amend this contest at any time and in any way, without prior notice. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, the contest is not capable of running as originally planned, the Sponsors reserve the right to cancel the contest and conduct judging from all previously received eligible entries received on or before the Contest Closing Date. The Sponsors shall not be held responsible for any problems, errors or negligence that may arise or occur in connection with the contest including, but not limited to, any damage to an entrant's computer equipment, system, software, or any combination thereof, as a result of the entrant's participation in this contest.

For residents of Quebec: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest in Quebec may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.

Privacy: The Sponsors respect your right to privacy. Unless otherwise indicated, any information provided will only be used to assess the entries and execute the contest. By providing personally identifiable information, you consent to the collection of this information by the Sponsors for the purpose of administering this contest.
