TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

Please read the terms and conditions of participating in the Family Literacy Day (FLD) World Record Attempt. You must check off the "I Accept" box below to indicate agreement with terms and conditions if you would like to register your event.

By registering my FLD World Record Attempt event for “Most Children Reading With an Adult, Multiple Locations” at www.FamilyLiteracyDay.ca, I agree to and understand the following terms and conditions:

  • My FLD World Record Attempt event will be held between 2 p.m. (EST) on January 23 and 2 p.m. (EST) on January 24, 2009.
  • Reading groups at my FLD World Record Attempt event will include at least one adult reader to every 35 children.
  • There will be at least one independent witness for every 100 participants at my event.
  • Munschworks 2, by Robert Munsch, or the five individual storybooks from Munschworks 2 (Pigs; Mortimer; Murmel, Murmel, Murmel; Purple, Green and Yellow; and Something Good), will be read in this order for a minimum of 30 minutes.
  • Local media may be interested in filming or writing about my FLD World Record Attempt event and they will be granted access to it.
  • I am responsible for receiving permission from guests at my event to take photos of all attendees and send them to ABC CANADA, if I wish, to be used for media, promotional purposes and documentation for Guinness World Records™.
  • ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation has the exclusive right to use any photo, audio or film that may be taken of participants on either of the above dates for news information or literacy publicity, without limitations.
  • ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation may transfer this right to any other party.
  • Registering my FLD World Record Attempt event does not necessarily entitle me or my organization to receive free FLD merchandise.
  • Neither myself, nor any participant at the event, has received, nor will we receive, any payment from ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation.
  • FLD World Record Attempt contests: I understand that if I have the highest number of participants in the FLD World Record Attempt, my organization may be considered for one of six $1,000 donations for literacy supplies for my organization. This amount must be accepted as awarded, it must be used for its intended purpose, and is not transferable or refundable. There will be no substitutes. Winning organizations will be chosen based on the true number of participants, to be counted after ABC CANADA receives the Registration Form as documentation. All decisions are final. The winning organizations will be notified by phone or e-mail no later than February 20, 2009.
  • By participating in the FLD World Record Attempt, I accept and agree to its official terms and conditions, and the decisions of the Project Sponsors (ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Oxford Learning and Honda Canada), which shall be final and legally binding. I understand that ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Guinness World Records, Oxford Learning and Honda Canada are not responsible for registrations that are lost, misdirected, or delayed for any reason whatsoever. By hosting an FLD World Record Attempt event, I agree that ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, Guinness World Records, Oxford Learning and Honda Canada, its subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising, promotion and other agencies, and all of their respective officers, employees, directors, representatives and agents, shall not be liable for, and shall be released, discharged and held harmless by me and my organization against all damage, injuries arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the hosting of the FLD World Record Attempt or FLD activities.
  • Privacy: ABC CANADA collects, maintains and uses registrant information in order to improve its programming. ABC CANADA maintains the confidentiality of any personal information, which registrants provide to it and endeavors to safeguard it from unauthorized access. Except where required by law, ABC CANADA does not disclose consumer information to third parties, unless indicated acceptable by the registrant.
  • I am over 18 years old and I have the authority to coordinate an FLD World Record Attempt activity on behalf of my organization and to agree to the terms and conditions listed above, and that no one else's permission is required.
  • I acknowledge that in checking the “I Accept” box, I am waiving certain legal rights including the right to sue.
