Imagine facing each day with limited reading skills Campaign
Print ads and posters, created by Harrod & Mirlin Advertising in 1994, depicted how the world appears to those with literacy challenges. The print series used gibberish on street signs and newspaper headlines to show how people are shut out from understanding the messages that many of us take for granted. Thanks to the support of companies such as Mediacom and Urban Outdoor TransAd, thousands of transit shelters and bus cards displayed this message across the country.
Math Solves Problems Math Literacy Campaign
In 2002, ABC CANADA launched the Math Literacy print advertising campaign, developed by TAXI Advertising and Design, to generate public awareness of the importance of math literacy. The bilingual campaign included the tagline “Math Solves Problems,” and featured ads that depicted everyday situations where low math literacy skills affected an individual’s ability to handle tasks.
Can You Read? Campaign
In 2001, ABC CANADA launched a new television Public Service Announcement (PSA) created by TAXI Advertising and Design, aimed at encouraging adult Canadians to enroll in reading and writing upgrade programs, and reminding them to look under “LEARN” in the Yellow Pages™ directory for literacy help in their community. It was shot at St. Christopher House, one of Toronto’s oldest literacy organizations, and included a tutor and learners recruited from actual literacy programs. Inspired by the experience of a real learner, the spot ends with a warm-hearted spin on a learner being asked to read a bulletin notice.
When you struggle to read and write, words can’t describe it Campaign
On September 8, 2000 - International Literacy Day and ABC CANADA’s 10th anniversary - ABC CANADA launched a print campaign developed by TAXI Advertising and Design entitled “When you struggle to read and write, words can’t describe it.” The campaign was aimed at generating public awareness for the literacy issue and communicating some of the statistics concerning low literacy challenges among Canadian adults.
