Adult Literacy

To be literate means that you have the skills to understand what you read, communicate with others and engage fully and confidently in life’s activities and opportunities– at work, at home and in the community.

Literacy is a tool that opens up a world of opportunities to an individual. It is also something that many of us take for granted. Unfortunately, millions of adult Canadians struggle with literacy challenges. ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation, launched by a concerned group of business, labour and education leaders, addresses these challenges by:

  • Supporting those who struggle with literacy
  • Raising awareness of literacy issues in Canada
  • Addressing the social, economic and political impact of low literacy rates

ABC CANADA is the private-sector voice championing adult literacy. Using the passion and talents of a considerable corporate and volunteer network, we incite debate, raise public awareness, convene leaders, and drive meaningful change in literacy policy and practice.
